Apple Store Sees 40 Billion Apps Downloaded; 20 Billion Only in 2012

apple-app-store-successIf you are trying to find out how the performance of Apple’s App Store is; the short answer is: Superb. Apple has announced that a total of more than 40 billion apps have been downloaded since the launch of Apple’s App Store. Interestingly, more than half of these downloads were in year 2012. And do note that Apple has not included the updates or re-downloads in this count.

Apple has also given some other important numbers in its press release. According to this press release by Apple, more than 775,000 apps are available for download on iPhone  iPod touch and iPad. Developers have been paid more than $7 billion by Apple. Temple Run game has been download more than 75 million times. The makers of Temple Run have termed this success  “as nothing short of astonishing.”

The app store was launched by Apple in July of 2008. The first one billion downloads mark was reached in one year. However, the apps downloads started to snowball very quickly afterwards. Apple had announced that 15 billion apps have been downloaded by July 2011. At that time more than 425,000 apps were available for download at Apple App Store.

The success of apps is likely to grow further into years as the trend for tablets and iPads keep growing at a great pace. Users are turning to apps for performing day to day functions. One key success for Apple has been its strong quality controls for the apps that are admitted into Apple App Store. Apps popularity has been the driving factor for success of Apple’s iPhone and iPad. With the largest number of apps available, Apple gadgets are first choice for users when they look out for buying a smartphone or a tablet.
